VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owner) – Reviews

2018, Feb 25 – Jeremy G., BC

Beautiful winter setting, nice accommodations and friendly service

“We had a great weekend at the property over a very snowy winter weekend, and greatly enjoyed the outdoor fire pit, outdoor hot tub and views across the lake from the living room and deck. The large living room and dining room space was a great fit for our group. We would definitely return for another weekend getaway.

Thanks Top Hat.

2017, July 29 – Heidi K., AB – “Nice House and View”

“The house is well appointed with most things you would need in the kitchen. Very comfortable living room and master bedroom furniture. There was a nice little gift basket left for us for things you might need on the first day. We used the fold out bed in the basement – our daughter found it quite lumpy. Air conditioning would be a real plus, as it was around 30 degrees when we were there, and the house got very hot at night.

The lake is beautiful, and there are 2 canoes and a kayak that worked well. The lake is not good for swimming, as there are a great deal of logs jutting out at all angles. My partner said you could feel them hitting the bottom of the canoe quite often. You can see fish jumping out front, and they enjoyed trying some fishing. Apparently the owners are not allowed to remove the logs, as they are now used as fish spawning ground.

Aside from that, the only real downside is the noise. The traffic from the highway virtually never lets up, and unless you are standing within a few feet of someone outside, you would have to yell or move closer. Inside the house, the traffic noise was not bothersome. The trains also go by many times a day across the lake, and honks etc at night and early morning. I heard the train at about 1030 our last night, and 517am our last morning. We commented that sometimes when the train was stopping or starting, it sounded like an orchestra was tuning up.

The outdoor furniture could also use some improvement – the chairs are quite flimsy and uncomfortable. The barbecue worked well, and is a good alternative to turning on the oven in the summer time.

Paula the resident caretaker is friendly and helpful.

“My family of 4 totally enjoyed our stay.kids loved the lake and water toys, house was amazing, super clean. Care taker was very nice and helpful.  My only complaint was the noise of traffic as your right on the highway. Other then that, a great spot to vacation!”

2016, August 10 – Cindy S., AB – “Rustic Charm-The View does not get better than this!!!!”

“The view from the wrap around deck is incredible. The lake, boathouse and fire pit are just many of the extras. Perfect for families, a ton of room with games for everyone. Fishing (although we caught very few and they were small), swimming and boating right at your doorstep. The space and lack of neighbors was even better, especially for our noisy family. The owner was super and the caretaker very friendly and helpful. They both tried very hard to please. The only negatives, would be the beds and one shower. They would be good for a family with small children, but for 6 adults, the beds needed a little work. Having said that though, we would definitely stay again and totally enjoyed our week stay!!! Thanks Again for sharing your home and making it our home away from home!!”

2015, July 6 – Karen S – “Great place to stay”

“Wonderful house. Plenty of room. Private little beach. Lake is great for boating and fishing. My husband even caught a fish. Location is close to highway but the house is very sound proofed. Great for family, group, relaxing, anything!!! Great helpful hosts!!”

2015, Feb 25 – Pastor B, SK – “Perfect fit for our group!!”

“Before arriving here, I admit the location was a little nerve racking.  Right off highway 1, high up in the mountains, in the middle of an S-curve on the highway.  But talk about hosts!!! We were led into the place by one of the owners who texted us along the way to see how we were doing.  You really can’t beat this place!  We came as a youth group of 12.  The floor up top worked for the girls to sleep, the basement was big enough for all the guys and the main floor was open to be used freely as well as the hot tub!  Definitely considering a return trip to this place. Oh, and you won’t wake up with a better view…gorgeous backyard ;)”

2015, Feb 6 – jlh, Surrey – “The View!!!”

“We stayed at Top Hat in December 2014! What a great place. So loving and welcoming, it was like coming into our own home away from home. Everything was super clean and everything we needed was right there for us. The hot tub was a great bonus and we enjoyed relaxing and watching the snow fall as we were hot and cozy. I would recommend this place to everyone and anyone. The owners are fantastic!!”

2015, Jan 29 – Brenda G., BC – “Sledding Trip”

“We stayed for 3 nights. Was a great time. We were able to sled right from the house. Endless mountain sledding in the area. House was fully stocked with everything you needed. Hot tub was so nice after our awesome days of being in the mountains. We can’t wait to go back next winter. Highly recommended.”

2015, Jan 6 – kristina d – “Amazing View”

“We had a great stay at TopHat, we were a group of 7 that wanted to ski and sled! The hot tub and fireplace were perfect after a long day outdoors! The views were amazing, tucked among the mountains and right on the lake, the train would cruise by and it would look something out of a kids train set! Owners were very accommodating and cabin had everything we needed! Definitely recommended!”

2015, Jan 2 – Heather, Winnipeg, MB – “A Little Piece Of Heaven”

“Fabulous property! Close to so much. We had a wonderful time lounging around the cabin, exploring Revelstoke and checking out the sights. Definitely my happy place. Will be back.”

2014, Oct 31 – Trish, Surrey, BC – “Wonderful Revelstoke”

“Wonderful mini-vacation spot!  The cabin is very clean and comfortable, and the views are fantastic.  We arrived at night, so woke up to see the lake and mountains in the morning – breathtaking.  The new hot tub is an excellent addition.  We loved sitting in it during the evenings, even when it was raining: so nice to be warm and toasty and yet watch the rain falling.  The owners have put together a binder full of things to do around Revelstoke, which we found very helpful.  We did many of the walks/hikes and deeply enjoyed the fall colours and the views.  Revelstoke itself is a lovely little town, and we recommend The Village Idiot Pub for their atmosphere and excellent food.  We would love to return to Top Hat Terrace!”

2014, Feb 22 – Katherine – “New Year’s Eve Gem!!”

“We had an amazing time over New Years!  The pictures on the web site give a glimpse of the beauty of the views.  One of the most beautiful places we have ever seen.  We found the kitchen to be extremely well stocked with everything needed, in fact will bring crock pot food for our future visits!  The house is open concept, spacious and very well furnished with very comfortable beds.  We enjoyed our time away from the ski hill playing on the air hockey and fooseball tables in the basement, a really nice touch!  The owners were not only helpful and informative but also provided a ‘what’s happening in Revelstoke’ email, describing events that were taking place during our holiday.  They have obviously taken the time to make sure we enjoyed our vacation.  We found the commute to Revelstoke a breeze, and were happy to be away from the downtown area.  We have already recommended this property to our friends and are looking at our calendar to find a timeframe that we can book again.”

2014, Feb 20 – RedHotAsh – “Just like the name says, it’s paradise in the heart of sledding country”

“Three couples stayed here over the Family Day Long Weekend and had tons of fun!
We went snowboarding at Revelstoke Mountain, ice fishing on the lake, and spent time playing board games and watching the Olympics in this cozy cabin! The kitchen comes with everything you need for making dinner and storing leftovers. The beds are super comfy as well as the pull out couch. There’s tons of space and the furnishings are really nice! We loved the wrap around deck and sitting out there watching the sunsets on the mountains. This cabin is close enough to town if you need anything but far enough away to feel disconnected from the busy world. Last but not least, the hosts of the Top Hat Terrace are very kind and very accommodating and we enjoyed planning our vacation with them.”

2014, Feb 20 – EAAM – “Excellent time, not as clean as I would have liked”

“I am rating the stay as average. The place was very cute and has a beautiful view of the mountians and the lake. However, the main floor bathroom had not been cleaned after the previous guests, and there was what looked like vomit caked onto the edges of the toilet. We inderstood the water was yellow from the high iron levels, but that was not the problem. The tub was also full of hair, and the tap and mirror had toothpaste splatters on them. I had to clean the bathroom myself to feel comfortable. Otherwise the stay was awesome. The cabin is very big, could easily accommodate larger groups. The kitchen is well stocked with lots of dishes and even a crock pot which was nice. One suggestion would be to have an extra set of sheets in the cabin for use on the pull out couch. All in all we had a blast and I would stay there again, I would just ask that the bathrooms be cleaned well.”

Owner Response

“Thank you for your review and bringing the downstairs bathroom cleaning issue to our attention. We do wish we had been made aware of this problem upon your arrival as we would have most certainly rectified the issue. We have corrected the communication problem so that this will not happen again.

We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your weekend and we look forward to having you stay with us again in the future.”
